State Wrestling Results
On Wednesday, February 18th, South Loup sent Senior, Jacob Mason of Callaway, and Junior, Brandon Moninger of Arnold, to compete in the 2015 State Wrestling Tournament in Omaha. The action started on Thursday bright and early.
Brandon wrestled weight class D152 this year. He wrestled Noah Rutjens, of Elkhorn Valley High School first round first round. Moninger was rated as a “contender”, and Noah was rated 6th.
Brandon lost his first match on a tech fall. (A tech fall is when your opponent scores 15 points over you in a match.)
Brandon won his second match to advance to the heartbreak round. Brandon lost in the heartbreak round on Friday with a score of 7 to 5, the wreslter that advanced was the fourth seed in his bracket.
Brandon said, with all smiles, “ It was a great learning experience. I’m really happy I got to go, it was just a lot of fun.”
Jacob Mason wrestled D132 this year, and his first match was against Tanner Ives of Harvard High School. He won his first match with a pin. Mason lost his second match by a pin. Jacob lost in the heartbreak round. It was a tight and hard fought match though.
